Hey 👋,
It’s been a while. I took a little break over summer, but as autumn arrives so does the desire to sit down and write.
Let’s dive in.
Frida Kahlo allegedly said “I paint flowers so they will not die”
I love this idea, because for me it is a quote about possibility. The ability to create a vision of something. To breathe new life into an idea and invite people into a world which may not have existed before.
In a lot of ways that’s what the process of creativity is all about.
Of course, in marketing this can also be used for the negative too. For example, advertising to get us to buy stuff we don’t necessarily need.
But it can also be used for good. To further a cause and to give hope and opportunity. To create communities and communicate important issues.
For me that sense of possibility is what I love about the start of any new project. The unknown, the what ifs, the enthusiasm to bring to life an idea where there wasn’t anything before.
Of course it can be a little nerve wracking too. Particularly the ‘what if I’ve already had all the ideas I’m ever going to have?!’ stage that might happen from time to time.
But that’s part of the fun right?
Because ultimately it makes the process all the more worthwhile when you get the finished product at the end of it.
But that idea of possibility is also a strong one to remember when trying to respond to challenges along the way. Or stepping out of your comfort zone and trying something new in life.
To keep an open mind, to ask questions, to think ‘what can go right?’, instead of ‘what can go wrong?’.
To keep the metaphorical flower alive. And ultimately open the door to allow the next wave of possibility to flow in.
Until next time 👋,
Harriet
